therapy
at the end
of the world

Set in the year 2035, Small Vices is the story of Mandie, a small-time drug dealer who is put out of a job by the passing of a landmark piece of legislation; The Small Vices Act.

Once all addictions are decriminalized by this landmark act, Mandie suddenly finds that the only way to make a living in this burning land is to join the ranks of those answering the call for “a million new mental health workers.”

But listening to the mental health concerns of the masses does come with its own price.

this is your brain on mental healthcare

All addictions are decriminalized by the Small Vices Act of 2035, but in order to gain access to small vices, citizens must sit with a Mental Health Worker and work through a state-mandated series of questions.

This isn’t therapy…it’s something worse.

A new series from Josiah Blevins

Hey, I’m Josiah. I created Small Vices, a vision of a world fast-approaching, if not already here.

I am an independent screenwriter and director, born in Richmond, VA, and raised throughout Carolinas. I have publicly performed music and created visual art in many capacities, beginning in 2003 with my first hardcore band, The Heartstring Fallacy. I moved to Charlotte, NC and was privileged to study at CPCC and Winthrop University, earning degrees in Fine Art from both. Over the last decade I have collaborated with a lot of great artists in groups like Gasp, Mall Goth, WAMA, Charlotte Arts Catalyst, Telepathetics, Goodyear Arts, and Birthköntrölle, in no particular order.

Small Vices is my first time directing and producing anything like this, and also marks the first time that my writing has been at the forefront of a creative project. I have been developing the concepts that became Small Vices for over six years before the stars aligned and I was able to make it happen. The show pulls from a lot of my personal experiences navigating mental healthcare within the larger context of the crumbling healthcare systems of the USA.

The world of the show is expansive and exciting. As the season goes on, many different easter eggs and possibilities will become clearer.

This series is made to be viewed in a vertical orientation, so if you feel like you’re not missing anything, it’s because you’re not. From the very beginning, this show was made with the intention that it would look beautiful on a small screen in a way that has not yet been explored.

Brought to life by my amazing friends, family, and collaborators, the world of Small Vices offers laughs, chills, and existential dilemmas set to an sparkling electronic score.

Thanks 4 reading, and buckle up 4 the ride.
