Small Vices Nears public release in winter 2025
Hello good people, It has been a long year.
I thought I could edit the four episodes we shot in the month of February. What followed was a brutal war of attrition between the limits of my own skills and abilities versus my will to keep going.
A lot of days I considered giving up. Only one or two days did I ever really let myself imagine what that might look like; how I might explain it to my team and collaborators. And it felt like considering dying. So I realized that quitting was not an option, and that I had to find a way to keep going.
Maybe it’s important to speak the truth here, that my own struggles with grief and mental health constitute a lot of the fertile ground that the seed of this idea fell upon. When I can’t keep going some days, I think of my dear friend Jonathan Mariano, and his indomitable spirit; and his memory gives me strength. And I am reminded that I am doing this because it might give someone else a little bit of strength one day.
The good news, is that the show is coming together. The light is visible at the end of the tunnel.
We have all four episodes together into a minimum viable version of the show now. This is a huge relief; a lot of days I couldn’t imagine getting to this stage.
My amazing friend Jacob Francek has stepped into the role of series composer, and has added some beautiful sounds to the episodes. My dear friend AJ has also stepped in to help me with audio processing and making sure the sound is balanced. I am working with a few different editors to try to get everything polished up and looking as tight as possible.
I’m looking forward to sharing the results soon. Just gotta keep going until then :0)
